Palestinian BDS National Committee salutes launch of BDS campaign in Aotearoa

The Palestinian BDS National Committee, the coalition of Palestinian trade unions, campaigns, NGOs and political parties that works to lead and support the BDS movement, warmly salutes the launch of the campaign against G4S in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Across the world, people of conscience are building boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaigns as a non-violent form of pressure against Israeli apartheid and to end the international support upon which continued Israeli impunity depends. It is truly heartening to hear of the development of BDS campaigning in Aotearoa New Zealand.

G4S is a British-Danish security company that has made an active choice to stand on the side of injustice and apartheid by providing equipment and services to Israeli prisons at which Palestinian political prisoners, including children, are detained without trial and subjected to torture.

Universities and trade unions in Norway, charities and banks in the Netherlands and Denmark and student associations in the UK have already cancelled their contracts with G4S in protest at the company’s role in maintaining apartheid.

We join you in calling on the NZ Super Fund to divest from G4S. By holding shares in G4S, the NZ Super Fund is supporting and profiting from Israel’s use of mass incarceration and the violation of Palestinian human rights and undermining the stated commitment of the Aotearoa New Zealand government to upholding international law. Let us work together to show the NZ Super Fund that the people of Aotearoa New Zealand oppose public money being invested in this way.

We look forward to working with you to build effective campaigns against G4S. Together, we can hold the corporations that maintain injustice in Palestine and around the world to account and strengthen the Palestinian struggle for freedom, justice and equality.
